Non-contributory visas axed

The 2014-2015 budget did not bring good news for migrants wishing to bring their parents to live with them in Australia.

With the annulment of non-contributory visa category that includes regular sponsored parent, aged parent, carers and remaining relative visas; migrants will now have to pay tens of thousands of dollars to bring their parents and family members to Australia.

The stream was first capped at 6,575 places in the 2012-13 financial year, followed by only 2,150 places in the last financial year, finally coming to an end this year.
