An Australian couple who abandoned one of the twins born via a surrogacy arrangement in India misled High Commission staff in New Delhi and were repeatedly warned the baby could be left stateless, an ABC report said.
The case is two years old. The Australian couple allegedly had twins born via a surrogate in India and chose to take only one baby with them. They abandoned the baby boy and chose to keep the girl. They did so because allegedly they wanted to complete their family with one child of each gender. These revelations have renewed calls for an inquiry into international commercial surrogacy laws after the couple from New South Wales said they could not afford to look after the boy born through a surrogacy arrangement.
