On Friday, 12 June 2015, the accounting skills assessment bodies have announced changes to migration assessment criteria which will start to take effect from 1 July 2015.

All three of the skills assessment bodies state that; the total number of core knowledge areas will be consolidated to nine (9) from the current twelve (12).

They also state; candidates must meet at least seven (7) core knowledge areas, with the exception of External Auditors and Taxation Accountants, who must meet at least eight (8).

Chartered Accountants Australia has specified that if an applicant has submitted their applicationalready or plan to submit their application for assessment in June, they will require ALL certified documents and payment to be received by 12pm 23 June to ensure there is sufficient time to process the application prior to 1 July 2015.

If all requirements are not met by 12pm on 23 June, then an application will be assessed against the new criteria being implemented from 1 July 2015.

CPA and IPA have only specified that applicants who have submitted their application already or plan to submit their application for assessment in June and for whom CPA and IPA have received all the documents required, they will endeavor to complete the assessment before Wednesday 1 July 2015. However please consider the current processing times when submitting your documents.

For those applicants who have received an assessment outcome from the assessing bodies and have been advised to completed further studies to meet the core knowledge criteria, you will need to consider the new competency areas when choosing your study plan.

For those candidates who hold a positive assessment letter for permanent residency these changes do not affect you as long as your assessment letter outcome is still valid (3 years from the date of the letter).
